The opposition submitted another demand for the resignation of Prime Minister Evika Siliņa ("New Unity") on Thursday, citing issues of immigration, failures in the implementation of the Rail Baltica railway project, and weak indicators of the country's economic development.

As reported to the LETA agency by the party, the resignation is required due to the "demand for the acceptance of migrants for Latvia," which, according to the LPM, has not been addressed by the responsible officials; the "actual failure of political oversight over the Rail Baltica project," as well as the country's economic development indicators, which the opposition assesses as weak.

It emphasizes that, unlike Estonia, the cabinet led by Siliņa has failed to achieve recognition of Latvia as a country facing significant migration pressure and classified as a "risk country" within the EU migration and asylum pact. As a result, the party believes that Latvia will not be able to avoid accepting migrants or significantly reduce its participation in their relocation.

Additionally, critics argue that Siliņa has not provided adequate political oversight for the Rail Baltica project, control over expenses, and transparency in the decision-making process, "hiding from the public information about the true costs and actual timelines of the project."

Lawmakers also point out that the cabinet led by Siliņa has not managed to cope with the growing national debt, economic stagnation, high inflation, and rising food prices.

It was previously reported that last week, the Saeima deputies rejected, by a majority vote, the motion of no confidence in Prime Minister Siliņa submitted by the opposition National Alliance.
