U.S. President Donald Trump, speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos, criticized European countries.
Ungrateful Danes
Trump stated that he would immediately begin negotiations to acquire Greenland and called the Danes ungrateful.
"Denmark fell in World War II in six hours, and the Danish troops were unable to protect either themselves or Greenland. At that time, the U.S. decided to protect the island, which was later returned. Maybe now you would be speaking German and perhaps a bit of Japanese. We returned Greenland back, but they (Denmark - Ed.) are so ungrateful today," said the U.S. president. However, Trump assured that the U.S. would not use force to seize Greenland.
Europe is unrecognizable – in a bad way
Trump stated that some EU countries are "not in the best shape."
"I think Europe is moving in the wrong direction. Over the last decade, Europe has become a problematic continent. Some places in Europe, frankly, are just unrecognizable. This is not in a positive sense. It is in a very negative sense," said the U.S. president. Among the main problems in Europe, he mentioned migration and declining investments.
"Don’t destroy your lands"
The U.S. is fighting against green energy, Trump stated in Davos and urged Europe to return to nuclear energy.
"Instead of building inefficient, loss-making wind farms, we are dismantling them and not issuing permits for new ones. Instead of closing energy plants, we are opening them. We need to move towards nuclear energy. Don’t destroy your lands. With every turn of the wind turbine, you lose $1,000. With nuclear energy, you don’t lose money," said the U.S. president.
