The board of the Union of Greens and Farmers (SZK) calls on Prime Minister Evika Silina (New Unity) and her party colleague, Minister of Finance Arvils Aseradens, to initiate disciplinary proceedings to assess responsibility and damage in connection with the unfinished bridge over the Daugava, according to a statement from SZK to the media.
Article 18 of the Law on Disciplinary Responsibility of State Officials stipulates that the right to initiate disciplinary proceedings is held by the Prime Minister and the Minister of Finance in cases of actions with budgetary funds that do not comply with regulatory acts.
The board of the Union of Greens and Farmers (SZK) believes that the Rail Baltica project is being implemented in an opaque manner that is unclear to the public, and this concerns not only the unfinished bridge over the Daugava but also the ongoing construction at Riga Airport.
It is unclear how the situation arose in which a bridge support was built that will now have to be conserved. The damage caused by such thoughtless actions is also unclear.
After a meeting of the ruling coalition parties, Prime Minister Evika Silina stated that law enforcement agencies are currently continuing to assess the situation surrounding Rail Baltica.
It was previously reported that the Ministry of Transport instructed the company "Eiropas dzelzceļa līnijas" (EDzL) to present calculations for the costs of conserving the support of the Rail Baltica bridge in the Daugava and suspending the remaining volume of work on the Riga node by January 23. Conservation is necessary, as the resumption of bridge construction is planned only after 2030. When exactly is unknown.
