Additions to the memorandum between the Ministry of Economics and retail chains are being prepared.
The head of the Ministry of Economics, Viktor Valainis, stated in an interview with TV-24 that after May of last year, that is, after signing the memorandum with retail chains, food prices stopped rising, and at the end of last year even decreased slightly. According to the minister, a more noticeable decrease in prices will begin in May of this year. This will be facilitated by the additions to the memorandum that are currently being prepared.
The Minister of Economics reminded that recently a large retail chain received a 2-million fine for violating competition principles. "We will continue to act firmly if retail chains try to bring producers to their knees," said V. Valainis.
It is noteworthy that many Latvians did not share the minister's optimism - on social media, Latvians advised Valainis to visit stores more often and look at prices.
