The priorities of Latvia's foreign policy - security, support for Ukraine, and strengthening Euro-Atlantic ties, including relations with the USA, were emphasized by the President of Latvia Edgars Rinkēvičs, who met with Foreign Minister Baiba Braže at the Riga Castle on Friday.

As reported to the LETA agency by the president's advisor Mārtiņš Drēgeris, the parties discussed current issues of foreign policy, including the agenda in the field of security policy and the development of foreign economic relations for 2026.

During the meeting, Rinkēvičs and Braže also discussed the report presented to the Saeima by the Minister of Foreign Affairs on the work done in 2025 in the field of foreign affairs and the planned activities regarding the country's foreign policy and European Union (EU) issues in 2026. The annual debates on this report are scheduled in the Saeima for January 29.

Rinkēvičs emphasized that the priorities of Latvia's foreign policy are strengthening security and Euro-Atlantic ties, supporting Ukraine, protecting Latvia's interests during negotiations on the EU's multiannual budget for 2028-2034, as well as promoting the country's competitiveness, for example, by organizing foreign visits involving Latvian entrepreneurs.
