Denmark did not request the participation of the Latvian armed forces in military exercises in Greenland, confirmed the National Armed Forces (NAF) to the LETA agency.
Denmark is one of Latvia's allies. Furthermore, Denmark is one of the participating countries in the NATO multinational brigade in Latvia.
In turn, the headquarters of the NATO multinational division "North" acts as an international military formation, in which Latvia and Denmark have taken on the role of framework nations. The headquarters is located in Ādaži (Latvia) and Slagelse (Denmark).
It would seem that if Danish soldiers are defending Latvia, then why not send Latvian troops to defend Danish territories? But no, they were not invited.
Others will. France, at Denmark's request, is sending troops to Greenland, joining other European allies in the military exercises "Operation Arctic Endurance" in the Arctic, French President Emmanuel Macron stated on Thursday.
The German Ministry of Defense also announced that it will send troops to Greenland. Several personnel in uniform are being sent by Norway. It seems that the Swedes are gathering combat backpacks. Estonians are ready to contribute to the security of Greenland. But it is still unknown whether the Kingdom of Denmark is ready to accept their assistance.
The Europeans will face a formidable opponent. On Wednesday, Trump stated on his platform Truth Social that Greenland should come under the control of the United States. "Nothing less is acceptable," he added.
