Failing to gain support from deputies for the local government budget for 2026, Chairwoman of the Adazi Regional Council Karina Mikelsone (Latvian Regional Alliance) announced her resignation.
According to the local government website, an extraordinary meeting of the council's finance committee was scheduled for Thursday to discuss the draft budget of the local government for 2026.
Since eight deputies supported the consideration of the draft, while seven were against, the budget was not reviewed, and the committee was instructed to revise it within a week, incorporating the proposals made by deputies during the committee and council meetings in 2025.
Several deputies also pointed out the uneven distribution of finances among the parishes and towns of the region.
The chairwoman of the council regarded the incident as a sign of distrust and therefore announced her resignation.
Mikelsone will continue to perform the duties of the chairwoman until the next meeting.
