Political scientists in an interview with Latvian TV about the upcoming election year: what surprises to expect?
Political scientists Juris Rozenvalds and Lelde Metla-Rozentale stated in an interview with Latvian TV this evening that the Silinie government will certainly work until the elections, which are 9 months away. At the same time, the experts did not rule out the possibility of replacing individual ministers. "But to avoid collapsing the government, it will be necessary to change not just one, but three ministers at once - one from each coalition party," suggested J. Rozenvalds.
But the main intrigue, of course, is how many parties will make it into the next Saeima. Professor Rozenvalds believes that the next parliamentary term will be very fragmented and may even result in a... stalemate.
"There may be conditionally three blocs. The first - conditionally liberal, consisting of 'New Unity' and 'Progressives'. The second - nationally conservative. And the third - conditionally Russian-speaking. And none of these three blocs will have a majority," outlined the post-election scenario J. Rozenvalds, suggesting that the formation of a new government will be long and painful.
