Currently, the greatest threat in the field of internal security comes from possible acts of sabotage, said the Minister of the Interior, Rihards Kozlovskis, in an interview with the LTV program "Morning Panorama," according to LETA.
The politician noted that this year in Latvia will largely be marked by elections and pre-election activity, which will create a certain tension, and it is important for all participants to maintain common sense.
Speaking about the fence on Latvia's eastern border, the minister reminded that it is mostly completed, but it is still necessary to finish building the patrol paths and continue implementing engineering solutions.
Kozlovskis acknowledged that the fence is often damaged — for example, there were more than 200 such cases last year. This often occurs with the support of the Belarusian authorities.
The minister added that in winter, the pressure from Belarus related to illegal migration on Latvia's eastern border has somewhat weakened, but it is too early to talk about long-term changes.
