Residents of Riga expect more active efforts from the local government in improving the city, addressing transportation issues, and combating poverty. This is evidenced by the results of a survey conducted in November by the research center SKDS.
During the survey, Riga residents were asked to name three problems that the city council should prioritize. 61% of respondents stated that the primary focus should be on urban improvement issues - the condition of streets, roads, and sidewalks, the improvement of courtyards, and the cleanliness of streets and sidewalks.
The second most frequently mentioned problem was transportation issues, indicated by 31% of respondents. Riga residents noted the need for better traffic organization and development of the transportation system, problems with traffic jams, lack of parking spaces, the need for new public transport routes, excessively high prices, and more.
The third most important issue for Riga residents is social issues and the fight against poverty, identified by 14% of respondents. People are concerned about problems faced by families with children, low benefits, access to free meals in schools and kindergartens, issues related to supporting pensioners, unemployment, and housing problems.
The survey was conducted from November 7 to 23, with 801 respondents aged 18 to 75 participating.
