In October, Saeima deputies received a total of €25,274.78 in compensation, with the most being utilized by Valdis Maslovskis (SZK), Liga Kļaviņš (SZK), and Linda Matisone (SZK), according to publicly available information, writes LETA.

A total of €15,801.70 was paid in compensation for housing rent to the deputies, and €9,473.08 for transportation expenses.

In October, Maslovskis received €935.90 in compensation, Kļaviņš received €908.80, and Matisone received €903.84. Ramona Petraviča (PVL) received €867.42, and Ilze Indrikson (National Alliance) received €778.31.

The largest compensation for housing rent in October was received by Saeima deputy Uldis Augulis (SZK) — €900, Liga Kozlovska (SZK) — €800, and Liga Kļaviņš (SZK) — €780.

Meanwhile, the largest compensation for transportation expenses in October was paid to deputy Arturs Butāns (National Alliance), who received €748.39, Viesturs Zariņš (New Unity) — €692.09, and Ilze Indrikson (National Alliance), who was compensated €442.61.

Deputies can receive a single compensation for housing rent and transportation expenses, including the use of public transport. The upper limit of compensations (the maximum possible amount) is established based on the declared residence of the deputy, and the Saeima compensates only the actual expenses incurred within the established limit. Not all deputies take advantage of the opportunity to receive compensations. For example, in August, 58 out of 100 deputies received no compensations.

The allowable amounts for transportation and housing rent compensations are calculated based on the average salary of the year before last, applying the relevant coefficients established by law — the Saeima Regulations.

Parliamentarians are compensated for expenses incurred while performing their deputy duties. The compensation system is designed so that the residence of elected deputies does not affect their ability to perform their duties. For example, deputies elected from remote regions would not be at a disadvantage compared to those from Riga.
