If a remotely controlled device that may threaten the safety of a critical infrastructure facility is detected near such a facility, a security service or private security employee will have the right to stop the movement of that device.
The initiative of the Ministry of Economy to amend the law on security activities was adopted by the Saeima on Thursday, December 18.
The ministry notes that the amendments strengthen the mechanism for implementing previously approved parliamentary amendments to the national security law, which provide the owner or manager of critical infrastructure, a state facility of primary importance of categories A, B, or C, the right to stop the movement of a remotely controlled device in the air, on water, or on land if it threatens the safety of the critical infrastructure facility. Such facilities include ports, airports, power supply facilities, military, and other facilities.
The right to take measures to protect the critical infrastructure facility on behalf of its owner or manager is vested in an employee of the internal security service of the critical infrastructure facility or a company providing security services, the ministry emphasizes.
