Politicians are arguing again over the budget.
The long-awaited truce has not been established within the ruling coalition even after the adoption of the 2026 budget and the package of budget-related bills. This time, the quarrel between the 'progressives' and the 'green farmers' arose due to the decision to introduce vignettes, that is, a fee for the use of road infrastructure, for commercial vehicles weighing up to 3.5 tons. Farmers who use vehicles weighing up to 3 tons to transport their harvest are also affected.
The 'green farmers' accused the Minister of Transport from the 'progressives', Atis Švinka, of incompetence. The 'progressives' did not hold back and 'reminded' the Minister of Economics, Viktor Valainis (Union of Greens and Farmers), of his hasty decision to abandon the verification of meters.
In general, the 'friendship' in power continues. Meanwhile, the Minister of Transport promised the farmers to urgently make a decision to cancel the fee for road infrastructure specifically for agricultural transport.
What about the rest of the commercial transport? Opposition deputies from the United List submitted a draft amendment to the Saeima that effectively cancels the decision made... 5 days ago! That is, it exempts all commercial transport up to 3.5 tons from the need to purchase vignettes.
