The former Minister of Finance considers the inflation forecast of around 2% to be overly optimistic.
Economist and former Minister of Finance Edmunds Krastiņš noted in an interview with TV-24 that compared to the three quarters of last year, the economy of Latvia has grown by 1.1% in the first three quarters of this year. "This means that after the recession, the economy has started to revive. This is positive, although in Lithuania the economic growth is over 3%. But prices will continue to rise next year, as the transport tax on freight transport will increase, the minimum wage will rise, and we see that tariffs for heating, water, and electricity are continuously increasing. I believe that the inflation forecast for next year at around 2% is too optimistic," said the economist.
