On Thursday, the Saeima adopted in its final reading the state budget for the next year, in which revenues are planned at 16.1 billion euros, and expenditures at 17.9 billion euros, with the budget deficit for the next year planned at 3.3% of the gross domestic product (GDP).
The budget was voted for by 52 deputies, while 42 parliamentarians voted against it.
The deputies began to consider the budget in its final reading on Wednesday at 9 a.m. Thus, the budget was worked on for about 24 hours, including breaks. As previously decided, the parliamentarians did not consider the budget and the accompanying package of bills at night this year.
In 2024, the Saeima considered the budget draft and 19 accompanying laws in less than three days, dedicating a total of about 27 hours to debates with breaks.
The budget for 2023 was adopted after approximately a day of continuous session, which drew criticism for unproductive work.
