The mayor of Riga, Viesturs Kleinbergs, proposed to name the meadow in Lucavsala in honor of world beach volleyball champions Tina Graudina and Anastasia Samoilova. The decision will symbolize respect and inspiration for the youth.

On Wednesday, Kleinbergs congratulated athlete Tina Graudina at the Town Hall, who recently won the title of world champion. The mayor presented the volleyball player with a symbolic gift — an image of the meadow in Lucavsala, which he proposes to name in honor of the athletes in the future.

This autumn, Tina Graudina and Anastasia Samoilova won gold medals at the World Beach Volleyball Championship held in the Australian city of Adelaide. In honor of this event, the mayor of Riga decided to initiate the naming of the city meadow in Lucavsala, located near the volleyball courts, after them. The Latvian Nature Fund conceptually supported the idea, but the decision will need to be made by the Commission on the Naming of Urban Environment Objects and Toponyms, with the final decision made at a council meeting.

"It is important for us that the youth in Riga are active and engage in sports, so I will propose to name the natural meadow in Lucavsala in honor of Tina and Anastasia. This will be a beautiful gesture of respect and an inspiration for other young people who can find their place for sports and movement right in Lucavsala," emphasized Kleinbergs.

It was previously reported that Graudina and Samoilova became world champions by defeating Americans Terin Brasher and Kristen Nuss with a score of 2:1 in the final. The Latvian volleyball players won seven consecutive matches throughout the tournament and lost only one set — in the final, while the other matches ended with a score of 2:0.
