The Saeima will reduce the debate time at the Saeima session, where the budget for the next year and related bills are being considered, deputies decided on Wednesday.
Deputies decided that each proposal could be discussed in debates for "3+1" minutes. Usually, deputies can debate proposals for five minutes the first time and two minutes the second time.
Politicians promised that the budget would not be discussed in parliament at night, so that the public, non-governmental organizations, and the media could follow the process. The second reading of the budget will begin today at 9 a.m., and work will continue until 9 p.m.
Earlier, the Saeima's budget and finance committee reviewed 235 proposals for the draft budget for the next year, with some opposition proposals being supported.
Two weeks ago, the Saeima announced that over 240 proposals had been received for the draft state budget for 2026 and the medium-term budget framework, while over 210 proposals were received for bills related to the state budget.
