The parliamentarians did not even manage to consider all the bills related to the budget.
As previously reported, at the beginning of today's extraordinary session of the Saeima, it was decided to shorten the debate time to three minutes for the first time and to one minute if a deputy takes the podium again. However, this did not particularly speed up the pace of consideration of the budget package consisting of 47 bills. After 12 hours of work, from 9 AM to 9 PM (with several breaks, the session lasted about 8.5 hours), the deputies did not reach the actual budget project for 2026. The session was interrupted exactly at 9 PM at the moment when the deputies managed to adopt 45 out of 47 bills and began discussing proposals for the 46th bill.
It is not hard to assume that if the deputies, following the old good tradition, decided to continue the session until all budget issues were exhausted, the session would have lasted at least until tomorrow morning!
Now the session will continue tomorrow at 9 AM and will again conclude no later than 9 PM. If this time is not enough for the parliamentarians to adopt the budget, they will have to come to work again on Friday...
