In the Saeima session, which is considering the budget for the next year and a package of accompanying bills today, the coalition deputies failed to secure a quorum, so a break was announced.
Deputies were supposed to vote on amendments to the law on tax and customs police, which provide for its transfer under the authority of the Minister of the Interior starting January 1, 2026, but the coalition managed to gather only 48 votes.
As a result, a break was announced in the session, although in the morning the coalition was able to secure 52 votes during the votes.
The coalition includes 25 deputies from 'New Unity', 16 from the Union of Greens and Farmers, and eight deputies from 'Progressives'.
The opposition is represented by the 'United List', which has 13 deputies, the National Alliance with 12 deputies, as well as the parties 'Latvia First' and 'For Stability', each with eight deputies.
There are also 10 deputies in the Saeima who do not belong to any faction, but some of them support the ruling coalition.
After the break, a quorum was eventually secured.
