Deputy warns: “Illegal immigrants are walking through Latgale farms”

The parliamentarian calls for the Minister of Culture to be named... the Minister of Immigration.

During the debates on the establishment of a parliamentary commission in the Saeima aimed at analyzing the issue of the influx of migrants, deputy from the National Alliance Arturs Butans responded to the skeptical attitude of ideological opponents - the “progressives” - towards the creation of such a commission.

You mentioned that the “PROGRESSIVES” talk about a strict migration policy one way or another, because you already know that society holds quite a different opinion, to put it mildly... from you. You need to reproduce such phrases now. But what is this strict migration policy then? Is it that you allow illegal immigrants to walk through Latgale farms, or that universities can accept migrants in an uncontrolled number? In fact, you support a policy that is called “come as much as you want,” because there are no quotas. As many students as want to come, come. And you are also willingly paying them scholarships.

In this context, Mr. Shuvaev, I want to say that your actions quite coincide with the actions of your Minister of Culture, whom I would probably call more of a Minister of Immigration rather than a Minister of Culture. Because when there were questions in the budget regarding the funding of culture, the salaries of those employed in the arts and music sectors, or pensions for years of service in this sector, the Ministers of Culture could not be seen nearby. She did not come, did not fight, the “PROGRESSIVES” also did not struggle in the budget. But as soon as the topic of migration comes up, they are the pioneers and have clung, so to speak, to this topic.

There too, as Shuvaev says, there are public funds. And what public funds are there in relation to migration under the Minister of Culture, or immigration? More than 60,000 is spent on teaching one person the Latvian language. So we can draw a conclusion about public expenditures. Is this the effective management that the “PROGRESSIVES” are proclaiming to us here?
