The salary fund in public administration has grown more than the "established" 2.6%. But no one will be held accountable for this.
Let us remind you that when adopting this year's budget, it was decided that remuneration in public administration should not increase by more than 2.6% in 2025. In response to this government decision, the members of the Saeima also limited the growth of their salaries to 2.6%. However, the latest data provided by the LETA agency, citing today's report from the Fiscal Discipline Council (FDC), indicates that expenditures from the remuneration fund in public administration, based on October data, have increased much more than the established 2.6%! In October, reimbursement expenses grew by 9.5% compared to October of last year, and cumulatively in 2025, reimbursement expenses increased by 6.7%.
Other fiscal indicators are also disappointing. At the end of October this year, the balance of the consolidated general budget of Latvia showed a deficit of 2% of the projected gross domestic product (GDP), or 810.6 million euros.
A year earlier, during this period, the balance of the general budget had a surplus of 311.6 million euros.
When comparing revenues and expenditures for the first ten months of this year with the revenues and expenditures for the corresponding period in 2024, there is a revenue increase of 1.4%, or 199.5 million euros. In the same period last year, there was a revenue increase of 12.3%! As they say, feel the difference!
This year, the slowdown in revenue growth is attributed to a 24.5% decrease in revenues from European Union (EU) funds and lower non-tax revenues - down by 7.5%. Expenditures, in turn, increased by 9.4%, or by 1.3 billion euros.
In October, revenues of the consolidated general budget amounted to 1.4 billion euros, while expenditures were 1.7 billion euros. Revenues of the main budget amounted to 692.1 million euros, and expenditures were one billion euros. Revenues of the special budget amounted to 455.7 million euros, while expenditures were 405 million euros. Revenues of the municipal budget amounted to 358 million euros, while expenditures were 376.2 million euros.
In total, in October, the balance of the consolidated general budget showed a deficit of 308.4 million euros.
