On the issue of peace negotiations, Western allies are 'on the same wavelength' - Silina

On the issue of peace negotiations to end the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Western allies are 'on the same wavelength,' said Latvian Prime Minister Evika Silina ('New Unity') in an interview with TV3 on Wednesday, LETA reports.

Commenting on the negotiations held on Tuesday evening among the partners of the coalition of goodwill, the Latvian politician noted that there was a unified understanding at these talks, including the readiness of the United States for full participation in the process.

According to Silina, the so-called 'leaked' peace plan from about a week ago was not what the United States actually wanted to discuss with Ukraine, but rather represented a list of Russia's interests.

When asked whether and when new rounds of negotiations could lead to real peace, Silina acknowledged that it is impossible to predict at this moment. It is only known that Thanksgiving, which is celebrated in the United States on Thursday, is no longer considered a possible date for reaching a final agreement. It was also noted on Tuesday that Russian President Vladimir Putin is still not ready to cease fire.

In such conditions, Silina emphasized that it is important to 'move forward with Russia's frozen assets' to start using them in the interests of Ukraine. In her opinion, it is also necessary to continue working on new packages of sanctions against Russia.

As previously reported, on Tuesday evening, the partners of the coalition of goodwill, together with the President of Ukraine and the U.S. Secretary of State, discussed support for Ukraine and further coordination of actions.

In recent days, the proposed U.S. peace plan has been actively discussed, with the first version perceived in Europe as extremely unfavorable for Ukraine and clearly aimed at satisfying Russia's interests. In this regard, politicians in the region are working on adjusting the proposed plan.
