This evening on live Latvian TV, Minister of Communications Aitis Švinka (Progressives) announced that the deputies of his party had appealed to the Prosecutor General's Office regarding possible illegal support from the Ministry of Agriculture to private wood processors at the end of 2023. In response, Minister of Agriculture Armands Krauze (Union of Greens and Farmers) stated that this is "a lie, as we were helping not private companies, but the industry - to prevent the bankruptcy of companies and mass layoffs of workers." A. Krauze explained that it was not about budget payments, but about lowering the prices for the sale of timber through an auction by the state enterprise "Latvijas valsts meži." A. Švinka disagreed with these arguments and accused the Ministry of Agriculture of trying to act in the spirit of the 1990s. He stated that the budget for 2026 will be adopted, after which consultations will begin to understand whether it makes sense to keep the current government.
