The Ministry of Defense is ready to allocate a whole million for artificial intelligence 0 5

The Ministry of Defense informed the Ministry of Welfare and Regional Development of its intention to cooperate with the Center until 2028, allocating up to one million euros in total. The Center will be tasked with meeting the needs of the defense sector in the field of artificial intelligence.

The Ministry of Defense is interested in developing a unified system for managing state data using artificial intelligence-based solutions, which will impact both the implementation of functions and the performance of tasks in the defense sector and public administration as a whole.

According to the Ministry of Defense, the Center should not only facilitate the implementation of EU regulations at the national level regarding the responsible use of artificial intelligence technologies but also enhance the efficiency of the entire public administration and defense sector, as well as promote the further development of digitalization processes. These solutions should aim to standardize the internal processes of institutions and improve comprehensive analysis and processing of problematic issues.

Currently, the Ministry of Defense will approach the government for permission to allocate up to 230,000 euros from the ministry's budget to the institution in 2026.

As previously reported, the Law on the Center for Artificial Intelligence was adopted by the Saeima on March 6 of this year.

The Center is an institution aimed at uniting the intellectual and financial resources of the public and private sectors, as well as higher education institutions, to develop mutual partnerships, implement innovations, and carry out initiatives in the field of artificial intelligence in areas with high potential in accordance with national interests.
