The negotiations of the coalition parties on the proposals for the state budget clearly show where there are disagreements, but, God willing, the current coalition will last until the elections to the Saeima next year, said the head of the faction of the Union of Greens and Farmers (ZZS) Harijs Rokpelnis to the LETA agency.
Today, the coalition parties continued negotiations on the proposals for the state budget for the second reading.
Rokpelnis added that active work is underway to improve the budget. When asked if the ZZS is satisfied with the budget negotiations, Rokpelnis replied that the party is never fully satisfied. He did not specify what exactly does not satisfy the ZZS until the negotiations are concluded.
Such negotiations clearly show where the coalition parties have differing opinions. At the same time, the parties know what unites them - care for Latvia. Answering the question of whether the current coalition can last until the parliamentary elections next year if the work continues in the same spirit, Rokpelnis said: "God willing, we will last."
The head of the Progressive faction, Andris Šuvaev, told reporters that several major agreements had already been reached during yesterday's negotiations regarding the budget. No agreements were made today. According to Šuvaev, there are still some issues to discuss regarding the proposals presented by the ministers and the accompanying bills.
The coalition parties plan to continue negotiations tomorrow, but this will be more practical work. According to Šuvaev, contentious issues were already discussed in yesterday's negotiations. "For the Progressives, the issue of the natural resources tax - on peat, unprocessed wood - is relevant. The Progressives also want to raise the issue of excise taxes on sugary drinks and products.
Despite Rokpelnis's statement that the ZZS is never fully satisfied, Šuvaev said that, in his opinion, the ZZS has reason to be quite satisfied. There are several ZZS proposals that he would like to support in the second reading. "But it should be taken into account that there are three parties - each with its own positions," Šuvaev said, not denying that there will be dissatisfied members.
