Ruling politicians reacted very skeptically to the emergence of a new political movement.
As previously reported, several well-known figures in society announced the creation of a political movement with one goal - to radically change the electoral system, effectively abandoning parties - deputies are proposed to be elected from single-member districts.
The ruling politicians interviewed by the Latvian TV program "Panorāma" reacted very negatively to the proposed reform.
"Instead of improving the electoral system, we are being offered to break everything and create chaos. To create a situation that was present before the coup of Kārli Ulmanis," commented Edmunds Jurēvics, the head of the "New Unity" faction in the Saeima.
In turn, the chairman of the "Progressives" faction, Andris Šuvajevs, noted that one idea alone is clearly not enough to create a political force.
And the deputy from the Union of Greens and Farmers, Gunārs Kutris, remarked that a certain legal system has been established in the country, there is a Constitution, and if there is a need to change something, then discussions should take place. According to the deputy, there are articles in the election law that may need to be reconsidered, and this issue has already been discussed with the president twice.
