Futile efforts of the medical union.
As is known, the medical union expressed no confidence in Health Minister Khosam Abu Meri. The reason is his ineffective work and unwillingness to listen to the opinions of industry representatives.
It is quite obvious that the head of the Ministry of Health will not resign, and expressing no confidence in him is as "effective" as expressing no confidence in, for example, outer space. In our country, there is a completely different mechanism for "firing" a minister - by the decision of the Prime Minister and in agreement with the ruling coalition. Unions cannot influence this process in Latvia in any way.
Moreover, the union is unlikely to resort to any radical forms of protest today - that is, a strike.
Let us dare to assume that... they will make some noise and then calm down. Especially considering that back in late winter, when Prime Minister Evika Silina proclaimed a restart of her government, it was clear that healthcare workers in particular, and the healthcare sector in general, had "nothing to look forward to."
Healthcare did not make it to the list of priorities, and therefore, there could be no talk of salary increases for healthcare workers, as the unions insist, nor of increasing state spending on medical services (quotas). The maximum that was managed to be secured for healthcare was 27 million, which will go to specific priorities within healthcare, and not to the salaries of healthcare workers.
So, Abu Meri can feel at ease - even being, according to polls, the most unpopular minister in Silina's government.
