Latvian politician detained again. This time in Estonia

The Estonian police detained Rīga City Council member Alexey Roslikov (Stability Party) and sent him back to Latvia, reports the Postimees newspaper.

Last week, it was announced that Tallinn municipal council candidate from the opposition Center Party, Olga Ivanova, is organizing a meeting of representatives from all three Baltic countries to discuss the situation of the Russian-speaking population in Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania.

One of the invited participants was Roslikov. Ivanova previously stated that the idea for the meeting arose during a conversation with him. Antanas Kandrotas was invited from Lithuania to the event.

On Monday afternoon, Roslikov reported on Facebook that he was heading to the meeting with colleagues when he was stopped by the Estonian police. According to him, law enforcement officers informed him that he was banned from entering the country.

"We are currently heading to the police station to sort out this situation," he said in a video recording.

According to the Estonian Ministry of the Interior, Roslikov is banned from entering the country until October 20. The Police and Border Guard Department confirmed that their officers detained the politician and checked his documents. Since he was not allowed to enter Estonia, he was sent back to Latvia.

Estonian Minister of the Interior Igor Taro stated on the public broadcaster ERR that the decision was made based on a risk assessment related to the politician's activities. "If someone comes with bad intentions, especially to support Russia's aggression, there is no place for them here. Especially in election week, at such a sensitive time. I think this is a specific example for everyone," the minister emphasized.

Latvian television reported that similar temporary entry bans into Estonia were imposed on other deputies from the Stability Party — Svetlana Chulkova, Natalia Marchenko-Yodko, and Igor Yudin.

Earlier, in the summer, the State Security Service (SSS) of Latvia detained and interrogated Roslikov, and conducted investigative actions at four locations associated with him.

In mid-September, as part of the same criminal case, the SSS conducted a search of Roslikov's vehicle and residence.
