The Ministry of Health has prepared a draft order for the Cabinet of Ministers to redistribute 4,259,400 euros to cover expenses related to the procurement, storage, logistics, and disposal of Covid-19 vaccines, as indicated by the draft order prepared by the Ministry of Health, LETA reports.
The draft order is submitted for approval with a deadline of October 20.
According to the law "On the State Budget for 2025 and the Budget Frameworks for 2025–2027," the total amount of funds to be redistributed for healthcare activities related to the containment of the Covid-19 infection this year is 5.33 million euros.
Of this amount, 4,259,400 euros is planned to be allocated to the subprogram of the National Health Service budget "Centralized Procurement of Medicines and Materials," while the remaining 1,071,108 euros is not planned to be requested by the Ministry of Health.
As stated in the annotation, the expenses are related to the procurement and storage of vaccines, logistics costs, as well as the disposal of vaccines. A total of 83,508 doses of the Pfizer vaccine have been destroyed.
According to information provided by the National Health Service, no new supplies of Covid-19 vaccines are expected this year. In this regard, a surplus will be formed in the budget program intended for infection containment activities, which is proposed to be redistributed to cover previously accumulated expenses.
After the decision is made, the Ministry of Health will prepare and submit a request for the redistribution of allocations to the Ministry of Finance, and the Minister of Finance will inform the Budget and Finance (Tax) Commission of the Saeima in the established manner. If the commission does not object within five working days, the redistribution will be carried out.
The draft order will not affect the budget framework for the next year, and expenses will be covered from existing state funds.
