Latvia has lost 537,000 residents over 26 years.
Population decline continues in Latvia. "It is the most rapid among the Baltic states. The population figures at the beginning of 2026 are:
- In Lithuania 2.888 million. (🔻 -0.1% compared to the previous year)
- In Latvia 1.845 million. (🔻 -0.8%)
- In Estonia 1.361 million. (🔻 -0.7%)
In Latvia, the population decline has been prolonged, with an almost continuous trend. Since the beginning of the century, there has been a 23% decline. In Estonia and Lithuania, this decline is not as pronounced, and in these countries, the population has stabilized in recent years," noted Janis Hermanis, an expert from the Latvian Confederation of Employers, based on the latest statistical data.
