Latvian passenger electric trains continue to receive names inspired by nature. Joining the already introduced "Bite" and "Priede" are "Zalktis", "Bērzs", "Mednis", and "Ērglis". In the future, all new Vivi electric trains will receive their own names.

Vivi continues the implementation of the project to assign names to new passenger electric trains operating in Latvia. The latest four trains have been named "Zalktis" (Uzh), "Bērzs" (Birch), "Mednis" (Capercaillie), and "Ērglis" (Eagle). Earlier, at the end of April, the first trains were named "Bite" (Bee), "Apodziņš" (Sparrow Owl), "Priede" (Pine), and "Egle" (Fir).

A total of 32 new electric trains are in the fleet, and each is planned to receive its own name. New names will be introduced gradually — four each month.

All selected names are related to Latvian nature. The project features names of trees, birds, animals, and other natural symbols characteristic of Latvia.

The naming process was carried out by specialists from the State Forests of Latvia (LGL), which is participating in the project together with Vivi.

The collaboration is not limited to just the names of the trains. Special route maps are also placed in the carriages, marking natural sites and LGL recreation areas located near railway stations.

What is important to know: the project aims not only to make each train more recognizable for passengers but also to promote Latvia's natural attractions that can be reached by train.

The new electric trains manufactured by the Czech company Škoda Vagonka began transporting passengers in Latvia at the end of 2023. Gradually, they have become the foundation of the country's modern suburban rail service.

Passenger interest in rail transport continues to grow. Last year, 21.3 million people used the services of the company — a 10% increase compared to the previous year.

The naming project will continue over the coming months until all new electric trains operating on the Latvian railway network receive their own names.
