Storm Approaching: What Energy and Railway Workers Are Doing

In connection with the forecasted strong winds on Sunday, JSC "Sadales tīkls" and JSC "Latvijas dzelzceļš" have raised their state of operational readiness, according to information provided by the companies.

"Sadales tīkls" has announced a heightened state of operational readiness to address damage to the power grid. Several hundred electricians across Latvia are prepared to work in an intensified mode, including at night.

"Sadales tīkls" warns that it is unsafe to be outside during strong winds, particularly near overhead power lines. Under no circumstances should one approach power lines if trees, branches, or visible broken wires are hanging on them. Dangerous situations should be reported immediately to "Sadales tīkls" at the 24-hour toll-free number 8404 or to the State Fire and Rescue Service at 112.

"Sadales tīkls" continuously monitors weather forecasts, wind movement, and the situation in the medium-voltage power grid. When disruptions are detected, power supply is restored through other power lines whenever possible, even before the damage is repaired. In cases of more complex and extensive damage, repairs may take longer.

The company "Latvijas dzelzceļš" reported on social media that workers are already on standby to address potential damage to railway tracks.

As reported, on Sunday, an increase in northwestern winds up to 20-26 meters per second, rain, and snow is expected across the country, with hail in some areas as well. Winds of this strength can break trees, damage roofs, and cause other destruction. The most destructive gusts are forecasted in Kurzeme, Zemgale, and western Vidzeme.
