Last year in Riga, there were 130 families in which children were not provided with proper development and upbringing, and which the orphan court informed the municipal social service about in the reporting year, according to aggregated data from the Riga orphan court, reports LETA.
These families are raising a total of 192 children, of which 31 are under the age of three, 96 are between four and 12 years old, and 65 are aged 13 to 17.
By the decision of the orphan court in 2025, parental rights were terminated for 272 parents. For 37 parents, these rights had been terminated earlier.
For eight parents, parental rights were simultaneously terminated in relation to three or more children.
Last year in Riga, parental rights were terminated for the parents of 246 children, while the rights of the parents of 126 children were restored, according to data from the orphan courts.
