For schoolchildren in Riga, 175 camps are offered for the summer with co-financing from the municipality. This means that children from the city can be sent at a discount.
Starting from April 14, a list of municipal camps for children/teenagers for the summer has been published on the portal eriga.lv.
Ineta Miglane, project coordinator of the Department of External Communications of the Riga Municipality:
– A total of 175 camps organized by municipal educational institutions in Riga are planned for the summer. In total, this summer, including closed camps, 6,661 participants can be accommodated with municipal funding.
Parents will be able to apply for their children to participate in the selected camps on this same service portal eriga.lv starting Thursday, April 16 at 10:00.
To apply for participation in closed camps, the child or young person must be a student of the corresponding educational institution.
How to Register
By logging into the portal eriga.lv using internet banking or an electronic signature, a parent will be able to see a list of camps suitable for the child's age, the duration of the session, a description of the camp, as well as how much extra payment is required for participation and contact information. Applications can also be submitted there.
After reviewing the application, the relevant representative will contact the parent to arrange the necessary documentation.
To participate in the camp, it is necessary to conclude an agreement with the camp organizer regarding the child's admission and fill out a special questionnaire that must include information about the participant.
Before going to the camp, it is advisable to familiarize oneself with the internal rules of the camp and learn about the items that the participant should bring, as well as how the arrival of participants to the camp territory and their return is organized.
Parents should also find out the exact address of the camp, contact phone numbers during the camp, as well as the living conditions provided at the camp.
Financial Matters
Last year, parents had to pay an additional fee for their child's participation ranging from 140 to 275 euros for 7-10 days. However, prices have increased since then.
Where Else to Find Camp Options
On the website of the State Education Development Centre – nometnes.gov.lv - offers for about 600 camps are posted every year, but prices in them are significantly higher if there is no substantial municipal co-financing.
For example, a health and adventure camp in Jurmala (Majori, Juras Street) called "Harry Potter," which has already opened this season, offers contests, hikes, and other activities based on the universe of "the boy who lived" and his friends. Children aged 5 to 13 are invited for a 5-day session (registration for different dates is possible) at a price of 359 euros. Thus, for 10 days, it amounts to 718 euros.
In other camps, organizers promise daily sports activities by the sea, walks along the sea and the Lielupe River, singing, drawing, chess, language courses (even Chinese), horseback riding, etc. However, prices, without municipal benefits, start from 500 to 800 euros for 10 days and above.
