“I’m still alive”: Raimonds Pauls gave his first comment after the surgery

The maestro underwent surgery, and his condition is currently stable. He shared this with journalists today.

“I feel average after the surgery. But I’m still alive,” said the popular composer.

He shared that there have been many funerals in his life recently: his sister passed away, and his co-author of songs, Janis Peters, also died. According to him, lately “everything has been going wrong.” At the same time, the maestro did not disclose the reason for his surgery.

It became known the day before that Raimonds Pauls had been hospitalized. He did not reveal the reasons, only confirming that he had health issues.

As reported by the media, in October 2025, Raimonds Pauls underwent a serious heart surgery. After the surgeons' intervention, the maestro temporarily experienced difficulties with speech. As a result, he had to cancel all scheduled performances in Latvia. A year earlier, the composer had already hinted at a possible retirement from the stage: he admitted that it was becoming increasingly difficult for him to work with notes and make studio recordings, and he also decided not to drive anymore.

Let’s wish our beloved artist a speedy recovery!
