Why are residents of Latvia more interested in cryptocurrency than others? Here we have even outpaced Estonia

In Latvia, 11.5% of the adult population, or approximately 175,000 people, own cryptocurrency, reported the Executive Director of the Latvian Blockchain Development Association, Reinis Znotiņš, citing data from a conducted study.

In comparison, this figure in Estonia is 8.7%.

The total value of crypto assets owned by Latvian citizens is estimated at approximately 833 million euros, with most investors controlling relatively small amounts, noted Znotiņš.

According to a survey, 15% of men and 9% of women own cryptocurrencies.

The association notes that in the Baltics, the average level of female participation in the cryptocurrency market is around 6%, while in the Nordic countries it is about 5%. Among all the countries in the Baltics and the Nordic countries, Latvia has the highest percentage of women owning cryptocurrencies, especially among women aged 18 to 29.

It was also found that interest in crypto assets is growing not only among the youth but also in older age groups — in 2026, 13% of residents aged 40 to 49 acquired cryptocurrency, which is an increase compared to the previous year (10%).

The most popular cryptocurrencies in Latvia are recognized as "Bitcoin", "Ethereum", and "Tether."
