NATO fighters conducting the air policing mission in the Baltic states scrambled four times last week to identify and escort Russian aircraft that violated flight rules, the Lithuanian Ministry of Defense reported on Tuesday.
On March 30, NATO air policing fighters were scrambled to identify two Su-30SM fighter jets. The aircraft were flying with their radar transponders turned off, without flight plans, and were not maintaining radio contact with the Regional Flight Control Center.
Additionally, on March 31, fighters in Estonia were scrambled three times to check unidentified objects.
The NATO air policing mission in the Baltic states is conducted from Lithuania and Estonia.
