"Rīgas satiksme" plans to make the only route connecting the capital's center with the airport, Route 22, operate around the clock, so that it runs once an hour during the night. As they say, better this way than not at all. And right now at night, it’s indeed — "not at all," only by taxi.
Moreover, approximately in April or May, the city council intends to resume the night transport system. This time, the scale of the project will be broader than last year, when there were only three night routes. This summer, they would like to add five more routes to such remote places as Vecmilgrāvis, Daugavgrīva, Kengarags, Ziepniekkalns, and Riga Airport, which is actually located not in Riga, but in the municipality of Marupe. These routes will operate only on the nights of Saturday and Sunday. The bus to the airport will run every night.
The decision to approve the new schedule still needs to be confirmed by the Licensing Commission, but sufficient funding must be secured beforehand, as fare revenues are significantly lower than operational costs. In general, let's wait for summer — we will see.
