Meteorological spring began on February 27 in Latvia, according to data from the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Center.
Meteorological spring begins when the average daily temperature exceeds zero degrees for five consecutive days, and the first of these days is considered its start.
According to data from the meteorological center, the average daily temperature across the country has been above zero since February 27, with the temperature rising to nearly +4 degrees on the last day of February and the first day of March. The maximum temperature on March 1 in Rēzekne was +11.8 degrees.
In many regions of Kurzeme and western Vidzeme, the snow has already melted. The thickest snow cover remains in Selija and Latgale, while in Dagda, there is still 40 centimeters of snow.
It is expected that by mid-March, continuous snow cover will only remain in some areas of Latgale.
