The Riga municipality urges residents not to pass by someone in a helpless state and to donate warm clothing to those who are homeless.

Residents are urged to donate warm clothing for men — pants, outerwear, shoes, knitted socks, gloves, hats, and sweaters.

Warm blankets are also very helpful. They are especially needed by the Mobile Team of the Riga Shelter, which distributes blankets to people who refuse to stay in shelters and choose to live in garden houses or similar places.

City authorities ask that clean, undamaged, and well-maintained clothing be brought — clothing that is still fully wearable.

Donations can be delivered to the Riga Shelter at 208 Latgales Street and 57 Katolu Street at any time of the day by ringing the doorbell and handing them to the duty officer.

During cold weather, residents are urged to:

  • refrain from consuming alcohol and other intoxicating substances;

  • use the services of free canteens at 13 Ziepju Street, 2A Zandarta Street, 56 and 126 K. Barona Street;

  • dress according to weather conditions and, if necessary, receive warm clothing at the shelter;

  • take advantage of the opportunity for free overnight accommodation.

If you see someone in a helpless state or know that someone is living in uninhabitable conditions, report it to the police by calling 112.
