As part of the Zila cena — zema cena (“Blue Prices — Low Prices”) initiative, Maxima Latvija has reduced regular prices in the long term on nearly 4,000 products and other goods by an average of 22% in January, which is practically one-fifth of their cost!
In honor of this event, an urban environment object was opened near the entrance of the Maxima XXX store in the center of Akropole Rīga, symbolizing the record for the lowest price in Latvia, and possibly in the world. To see the artistic object representing the lowest price, two magnifying glasses have been installed: its size is 23 times smaller than a standard price tag — 15 mm horizontally and 8 mm vertically. This is a witty creative symbol of the new initiative for long-term low prices.
The most important thing is that the “blue prices” are not a temporary promotion, but a long-term low price commitment. Of course, as always, there will be other promotions allowing customers to purchase products and goods even cheaper. For example,
– boiled sausage Vārīta Doktordesa ar sieru WELL DONE, 300 g, –1.59 euros;
– chicken drumsticks (raised without antibiotics) Cāļa stilbi WELL DONE, 500 g, – 2.29 euros;

How to Save with the Blues on… a TV?
Let’s say how many 180-gram packs of cottage cheese you buy in a week: suppose two packs over 7 days. Previously, the price of Well Done 9% fat cottage cheese was 1.34 euros. This means you spent 139.36 euros on cottage cheese in a year. Now this same product has “turned blue” and costs 0.89 euros: this means your expenses over 12 months will amount to 92.56 euros. Do you feel the difference? Just on cottage cheese, your budget will save 46.80 euros.
You can also take Well Done Classic mayonnaise, a 390 g jar, which used to cost 2.39 euros. Let’s assume that two such jars are enough for you for a month (mayonnaise is popular in our country) — that’s 248.56 euros a year. The “blue price” of this product has dropped significantly to 1.89 euros, which will cost you 196.56 euros. The savings are obvious, amounting to 124.28 euros a year. For these two products alone, you are already saving 372.84 euros a year.
Of course, you will have your own shopping list, your own budget, and your own discoveries. Based on the information in the MaximaLatvija magazine and on the website www.maxima.lv/zila-cena-zema-cena
And what if you collect a basket of products and goods marked with blue prices? And add those that have promotions every week? This way you can save hundreds of euros — for vacations, household appliances, entertainment. Plan your shopping for the week, keep records — this will help you save on products without losing quality, quantity, and variety.
Important!
The “blue prices” will not change tomorrow and will remain stable for a long, long time. Whenever you come to Maxima Latvija stores, products marked in bright cornflower blue (they are immediately visible!) will remain stable in their designated price and will not increase!
“The ‘Lowest Price’ object is a symbolic way to show that we care every day about making goods available to the residents of Latvia at low prices. According to a survey conducted by Maxima Latvija*, 53% of respondents noted that in addition to short-term promotions in stores, they would like to see more products with stable prices, which would make shopping easier and more predictable.
Therefore, as part of the new initiative Zila cena — zema cena, we have reduced regular prices on nearly 4,000 products by an average of 22%, thus giving our customers the opportunity to save and showing that price and quality can go hand in hand,” said the head of the communications department of Maxima Latvija, Liene Dupate-Ugale.
Among the “blued,” or reduced-price products, are all the essentials needed for a full and varied diet: dairy products, poultry, meat, delicacies, canned goods, olive oil, coffee, tea, chocolate, trout roe, black and green olives, mayonnaise, vegetables and fruits, bread, pasta, buckwheat, dumplings, canned cucumbers, salmon fillet, walnuts, and much more.
The “blue” offer includes products that correspond to the categories of the well-known memorandum Zemo cenu grozs (“Low Price Basket”), as well as a number of other important products, everyday goods, and beverages for every family. To make it easier for customers to recognize them, price tags for these products are marked in bright blue.
“At a time when the issue of prices is very relevant for Latvians, we have found another way to ensure reduced prices in everyday retail. Our new initiative, in addition to other low-price programs, considering the wide range and volume of goods, as well as the extensive availability of our stores throughout Latvia, can be another step towards reducing inflation in the country.
As market leaders, we hope that this initiative will have a positive impact on the market as a whole,” said Edvins Lakstigala, director of category management and purchasing at Maxima Latvija.
The initiative has received support from the company’s partners. According to the press service of Maxima Latvija, local partners, whose products now make up more than 60% of the entire assortment of goods included in the “blue prices,” have shown particularly great interest.
