In Riga, starting Tuesday, it is allowed to go onto the ice of certain bodies of water, reported the external communications department of the Riga City Council.

It is permitted to be on the ice of the Kengarags Pond, the bodies of water in the Vladimir Kudoyar Park, in Viesturdarzs and Uzvaras Park, the pond of the Mazyumprava Manor, as well as the lakes Babelit, Dambjapurva, Gailezers, and Velnezers.

In addition, access to the ice is allowed in certain sections of the Vecdaugava River - no further than 200 meters from the shore and no closer than 400 meters from the mouth of the Jugla River at Kisezers.

It is also allowed to be on the ice of the Maras Pond - no closer than 250 meters from the mouth of the Marupite River and no closer than 150 meters from the intersection of Frica Brivzemnieka and Ojara Vaciesa Streets.

The ban on going onto the ice has also been lifted in certain sections of Lake Juglas, as well as on Strazdupite and Ziemelupes.

The local government emphasizes that the thickness of the ice can vary significantly in different places and full safety cannot be guaranteed, therefore people are urged to exercise caution and critically assess the risks when going onto the ice.

The period of increased danger on the ice of Riga's bodies of water is established by a special order from the executive director of the city of Riga. The police of the Riga municipality oversee its enforcement.
