This year, the Riga City Council banned the launching of fireworks on December 31 at 11:00 PM – when the New Year arrives in Moscow, Turkey, and Madagascar. Surrounding municipalities did not support the capital's bans.
For example, to avoid the punitive regulations of the Riga municipality, one only needs to cross Karlis Ulmanis Gatve near the Spica shopping center. On the other side of the road begins the tolerant territory.
According to the Public Order Rules of the Marupe region, the use of fireworks and stage pyrotechnics is prohibited in the municipality — in the city and parishes — from 11:00 PM to 7:00 AM. However, there is an exception – during the New Year holidays, their use is allowed from December 31, 7:00 AM to January 1, 3:00 AM.
Residents of Marupe and their guests are also reminded that Latvia has a Law on the Circulation of Pyrotechnic Products, which stipulates that fireworks and stage pyrotechnics may only be used in accordance with the instructions for use and the safety requirements specified therein.
It should also be noted that the Riga Airport is located in the Marupe region. Special safety rules apply near it.
