In Old Riga, starting Sunday, December 28, there will be specific traffic restrictions due to New Year celebrations, the Riga City Council informed LETA, as reported by LETA.
The celebration of the arrival of 2026 in Riga will take place at Town Hall Square, Livu Square, Castle Square, at the Powder Tower Square, on the section of Kalku Street from Valnu Street to Aspazijas Boulevard, as well as on the parallel 11 November Embankment from Polu Gate to Biskapa Gate. Due to the events, traffic will be restricted in certain areas of Old Riga starting Sunday, December 28.
From Sunday, December 28, from 8:00 AM until Thursday, January 1, 11:00 PM, the movement of vehicles, bicycles, and electric scooters will be closed at Castle Square and on the parallel 11 November Embankment from Polu Gate to Biskapa Gate.
From Wednesday, December 31, from 8:00 PM until Thursday, 2:00 AM, traffic may be restricted or closed on the section of Smilshu Street from Zigfrids Anna Meierovics Boulevard to Valnu Street if necessary.
From Sunday from 8:00 AM until Thursday, 11:00 PM, stopping and parking of vehicles will be prohibited at Castle Square and on the parallel 11 November Embankment from Polu Gate to Biskapa Gate, and if necessary, vehicles left there will be moved to other permitted parking areas.
From Monday, December 29, from 8:00 AM until January 1, 11:00 PM, the micromobility parking zone will be closed at the intersection of Valnu and Kalku Streets.
