Where Have the Flu Vaccines Gone?

Elderly people have been very actively vaccinated against the flu this season.

This year, the government ordered more flu vaccines than last year — about two thousand doses more, totaling around 140,000 vaccines. However, the demand forecast was not entirely accurate, and the vaccines have nearly run out, with the next delivery of vaccines expected only before Christmas. This was reported today by the TV-3 news service.

"An additional 6,000 doses of vaccines have been ordered, which will soon be offered to vaccination institutions. Yes, by the end of the year. And, of course, this planning depends on both the demand from vaccination institutions and the forecasts, but it should be noted that the flu vaccine is produced anew, and along with that, these forecasts are very complex, and Latvia is not the only place where either there are not enough vaccines for everyone who wants them, or there are remaining stocks," noted Jana Feldmane, the director of the Public Health Department of the Ministry of Health.

By the end of last week, the consumption of flu vaccines paid for by the state had already reached 90%. The elderly were the most active in getting vaccinated — 96% of the vaccines allocated specifically for this group of the population were used. Parents were also particularly active in vaccinating their children who are in at-risk groups.
