Last week, a sharp increase in influenza incidence was observed across all monitoring zones of the Disease Prevention and Control Center (DPCC) and in all age groups of the population.
The proportion of positive influenza tests last week reached 18.1%, significantly higher than the epidemic threshold of 10%.
The proportion of patients with respiratory infection symptoms in outpatient facilities accounted for 18% of all doctor visits last week, compared to 22% the previous week. Among these individuals, there was a sharp increase in the number of patients with influenza symptoms: the incidence rate reached 344.2 cases per 100,000 population, which is 2.7 times higher than the 125.3 cases per 100,000 population recorded the previous week.
Although influenza incidence increased across all age groups, the highest incidence rate was observed among children under 14 years old.
The highest incidence of influenza was in Jelgava, followed by Jurmala, Riga, and Gulbene.
Last week, 234 patients were hospitalized with acute respiratory infections, significantly more than the 161 the previous week.
Of the total hospitalized, 46.2% were elderly individuals aged 65 and older. Among them, ten patients were placed in intensive care.
Influenza type A was confirmed in 124 patients, while three patients were diagnosed with influenza type B.
The proportion of positive tests for Covid-19 increased to 6.3% compared to 4.8% the previous week.
Thirty-three new patients with Covid-19 were admitted to hospitals. Two deaths of patients with Covid-19 infection were also reported.
