The majority, namely 68% of Latvia's residents, approach retirement with concerns. The main reason for worry, indicated by almost as many — 67% — of respondents, is a lack of funds.
This was revealed in a survey conducted by an insurance company and the research agency Norstat as part of the "Your Pension Week."
Although financial concerns about retirement worry residents significantly more than health issues or loneliness, more than a third, or 38% of respondents, do not create any savings, relying solely on the state-guaranteed first and second pension levels, the study showed.
Concerns about retirement are more pronounced among women (74%) than men (62%). Women are also more worried than men about insufficient funds during retirement — 73% compared to 61%.
The study indicates that anxiety about retirement age is present among the majority of respondents across all age groups, meaning that most young people also approach retirement age with some anxiety.
Following concerns about insufficient funds, worries about potential health problems are indicated by 52% of surveyed residents of Latvia. 14% of respondents are concerned about loneliness in retirement years, while 12% worry about a lack of activity.
