Starting today, JSC "Rīgas siltums" will conduct the annual dyeing of the heat carrier in Riga's heating pipelines using a dye that is harmless to health and the environment to monitor the tightness of the heating pipelines and heating systems, the company informed the LETA agency.
The added dye is dissolved in technical water and circulates only in the "Rīgas siltums" networks. The addition of dye to the heat carrier does not affect the supply of thermal energy in Riga and poses no health risks.
Thanks to the dyed water, damages in the heating pipelines can be quickly identified and eliminated, the company explains.
The heat carrier circulates in the heating pipelines and consists of technical water used for transporting heat in the centralized heating system from the production source to the building's heating unit. From the heating unit, the internal heating system of the building receives thermal energy, which then provides heating and hot water preparation. Usually, the path of the heat carrier does not include direct supply to the end consumer, as the heating unit is the boundary between the centralized and internal heating systems of the building.
In case dyed water — with a greenish fluorescent tint — appears in the hot water supply system or leaks from the heating pipelines are detected, the company asks to report this via the free 24-hour customer service phone: 80000090.
