In Riga today, the lighting of the main tree in the Town Hall Square and the events of the First Advent will mark the beginning of the Christmas waiting period, as reported by the Riga City Council.
The tree in the Town Hall Square will be lit at 16:00.
The event will feature the children's and youth vocal ensemble "Kolibri", "Brīnumskapis", and "Tutas lietas". The lighting of the tree will be attended by the Chairman of the Riga City Council, Viesturs Kleinbergs. The evening will be hosted by actor and television presenter Oskars Florencs-Viksne.
The main Christmas trees of Riga are 35 years old, reaching a height of 21 meters. The Mayor of Riga selected the trees from the Tīrelis forest district, near the village of Cielava.
