Just last week, scammers swindled half a million euros from residents, the State Police reported to the LETA agency. Thus, the scale of money theft from residents of Latvia could reach two million euros a month.
From November 10 to 16, the State Police registered 252 cases of fraud. In 63 registered cases, residents lost money, while in 189 cases, the scammers' attempts were unsuccessful. The total losses for the population amount to at least 509,826 euros.
Most of the funds were still stolen as a result of false calls, where scammers impersonated employees of organizations such as 'Latvenergo', 'Sadales tīkls', the State Police, mobile operators, the State Revenue Service, credit institutions, or social services.
Last week, telephone scammers managed to swindle 275,019 euros, with the highest number of such cases registered in the Riga region - 204.
